About the Panelists

Polapat ARKKRAPRIDI (Paul)
Managing Director, Corporate Venture Capital, Digital Venture

Paul Ark spent the first half of his career as an investment banker, working on IPOs, acquisitions, and private equity deals for global banks Deutsche Bank and Citigroup in Asia and New York, as well as boutique advisories Tonson Capital and Blackwood Ventures in Southeast Asia. He then transitioned to the world of retail by joining Central Retail, working on regional joint ventures and working on the company's market entry into China and other Asian markets. He spent several years facilitating Apple Retail's market entry into Asian markets, opening up flagship stores in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia, before joining Microsoft and advising on their China retail market entry strategy. Paul is also an active startup mentor and angel investor, having made investments in early stage companies in the United States, China, and Thailand, and currently manages the FinTech venture capital fund for Siam Commercial Bank's Digital Ventures group. Paul earned his undergraduate business degree at Berkeley's Haas School of Business, and his MBA at Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management.

Lai Yin Sarah CHEAH
Associate Professor, National University of Singapore

Sarah has been conducting research and practice in innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as early-stage technology incubation and commercialisation. She is also a panel member of the Diagnostics Ecosystem Study commissioned by A*STAR ETPL. Her interest in entrepreneurship started in 2000 when she left a secure and well-paying job with a US multi-national corporation to join the high-risk and high-churn startup workforce in Silicon Valley. After a few years of intensive scaling up to extend the startup footprint into Asia Pacific with more than 16 customer sites from a wide range of industries, Sarah joined the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre in 2003. As Adjunct Assistant Professor, she helped to build the local startup ecosystem by playing the role of educator in the Technopreneurship Minor Programme, mentor and coach to aspiring student entrepreneurs.

Project Manager, National Innovation Agency

Pariwat WONGSAMRAN is working at National Innovation Agency (Public Organization)-NIA, Innovation Strategy Department as a project manager. He obtained Master of Engineering in Information and Communication Technology for Embedded Systems (International Program) from Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology - TAIST Tokyo Tech, Bangkok, Thailand (Scholarship). Which is the cooperation of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) - Japan, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) - Thailand, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) - Thailand, and Kasetsart University (KU) - Thailand respectively. At NIA, he is responsible for developing number of innovative projects along with innovative entrepreneurs and large companies in various industries. Most of the projects are aligned according to Agriculture, Logistics, Education, Information and Communication Technology based, Security and Safety, Healthcare and Medical, Designs and Services.
